Seagrass & Mountain Grass Area Rugs
What is Seagrass?
Seagrass is a flowering plant that is grown underwater and found mostly in China and India. The fibers are then dried and can be woven into beautiful Seagrass Area Rugs among other things such as furniture and wall coverings.
Seagrass is a non-porous and extremely durable natural fiber, making it stain resistant and a smart choice for heavier traffic or dining areas. The fiber itself is naturally smooth, making it more comfortable to walk on with bare feet than some other natural fiber rugs. Seagrass Area Rugs are environmentally friendly and are generally not treated with chemicals making them a perfect choice for anyone allergic to dyes or toxins.
What is the difference between Seagrass and Mountain Grass?
Mountain Grass as the name implies, is grown in the mountains of the Pacific Rim. It is a sustainable natural fiber that nature can quickly replenish and therefore considered eco-friendly. This natural fiber also known as hemp, is extremely durable and looks very much like Seagrass, but usually has a darker earthier tone. It is also slightly more rigid than Seagrass which can sometimes be less comfortable to walk on depending on the type of weave. However, the beautiful earth tones and unique designs made from this material make it a favorite among designers by complimenting any type of décor.
